London which is normally a wonderfully multicultural city has just exploded with an even more diverse population. So far the London Olympics has been running smoothly (except for a lot of empty seats.....). There are a lot of people on the streets and there is a lovely atmosphere out there. And luckily it is mostly dry, so far. Hope you enjoy the pictures. To see more of my shots for Vogue click here.

Out and about....thoroughly modern

From Fashionistable
Derek is a Film and TV production designer. You can see what he does here. He was just naturally standing like this when I saw him and had great presence. He is wearing a Jones jacket, in his jacket is what used to be known as a snuff hanky which has a clover leaf design of 3 spots together. They were always dark in colour because of the nature of snuff. He bought his online. The top is an original Bretton Armor Lux,  he couldn't remember where he bought his shorts and his boots are Hunters.
When I asked for a surprise he said "I am a very modern person, although I don't look it".

Out and about....Viva

I met the fabulous Viva as she was leaving her caravan to go preform at Odditorium telling stories, with Jane Spurr, which is why she was dressed up. And what stories she has to tell. Viv was in the first punk band in Cornwall in the 70's and 80's  - with her son - called The Bricks. She has just retired from working at Glastonbury (the festival). Viva has also known the Port Eliot festival since 18981 when is was originally called The Elephant Fayre and this year was managing the Bowling Green. I asked her a few questions the 1st was who or what was her style influence her reply was " I think Vivienne Westward is a genius I love her work but being the size I am I can only wear the things that fit my extremities." Her wonderful dress was designed by Theo Clinkard who now designs for opera and ballet. She also had red Vivienne Westwood wellies on under her dress and was carrying a Vivienne Westwood bag.
I then asked Viva about her favourite place and she said "I am a Londoner and I think London is so beautiful but I also love my lovely home not far from St. Germans."

Admiral Marty and Director Henry and the Magical Knitted Tree.
The boys were having fun long jumping off hay bales. And Henry was both directing the action and taking part. Hamish and Marty had been dressed by the Rubbish Couture tent in the wardrobe department, which was in the walled garden.
The estate the Festival is on is huge and you never know when you are going to be surprised like you are when you come across something so creative as this wonderful decorated knitted tree.

The Tea Ladies on Tour and Busk Stop.
The Tea Ladies were hilarious and were wondering about serving tea and causing merriment wherever they went. They are Mildred Biggins, Ethel Higginbottom and Vera forgotten used to have a memory but don't know where I left it Brown. Who is married to Erin who she gets confused with her tea urn.

A vintage 4, just thought they looked good.

The setting, it was beautiful. There was something for everyone, music, fashion, poetry readings, book readings, cinema, flowers, cookery demonstrations, walks, wild swimming, knitting, kayaking, mudlarking, special Hullabaloo for the kids to name just a few. The programme said to expect the unexpected I would say that is a perfect description. Oh and don't forget your mosquito repellent. But be sure you go. See you there next year.

I have to say this festival was as beautiful as the people I met and photographed there. It is truly amazing. The setting is breathtaking. My only bug bear was the bugs. They didn't warn you on their site about the mosquitoes and these little buggers were having a field day as a result. Would I go again...in a heartbeat. To see more of the shots for Vogue click here. I am going to post more pic's from the weekend tomorrow so watch this space.

I had a great evening last week at the Summer Series at Somerset House. Shot first for Vogue then to top it off got to see Paloma Faith perform. It was a wonderful evening and is a brilliant location for a music event. Small enough to feel intimate even though there were a few thousand of us in there together. Big thank you to Grace and Chris from Family for looking after me so well. To see more of my pic's from the evening click here.

Vicky is from Shang Dong in China and is an artist. When I saw her she had a lovely air of happiness about her. It was great to watch. When I asked her the questions I ask it became evident why. Her style influence she says is spirit energy. She likes to imagine the city as a forest. For Vicky meditation is essential, especially under a tree and she says it influences your energy more and helps you get back to nature.. Her 2 favourite places in London are the British Museum and the SOAS Library. The 1st drawing is one of Vicky's artworks (she doesnt have her work online)the 2nd is one of her boyfriends which she sent in her 1st email to me after we met. There is a great feeling of movement in it. Vicky is wearing a hat and coat she bought at Barnet Fair, her boots are Kenzo, necklace All Saints, bag COS and her umbrella is from China.

Breton Stripes

Today I’d like to talk about this lovely piece of our wardrobe basics.  Breton stripe t-shirts and knits are truly a wardrobe staple and they will never be outdated.  You can find them in many clothing stores like Asos or Saint James of France; for an extra touch of luxury you can choose from Armor-Lux of Quimper.
Breton stripes are traditionally associated with French fisherman, dated back to 1800s. The shirts were worn to protect themselves from the strong winds of the Britanny coast.  Genuine Breton tops have an exquisite close-knit of very fine cotton, which makes them very sturdy for the fishermen’s work.

Breton stripes were adopted by European and American socialites on the French Riviera, led by the great Coco Chanel to be seeen as chic.

I love this piece most, when paired with skinny jeans and ballet flats and with voluminous skirts. And I must say that, it has a very French chic appearance when worn with a 60s pixie crop or a la Brigitte Bardot hair.

 **

Unfortunately I’ve been a very bad blogger and neglecting my blog for some time now... It’s just that, I’m so overwhelmed with crazy stuff at work and urgent need of vacation, I can’t seem to get my mind together for writing posts. I’ll be off to Valencia, Spain in two weeks, for a one week vacation and my mind is completely on that these days:)
