I think I’m having some fruitful days; not experiencing any difficulties in writing. Words automatically are coming out from my head down to my finger tips on to the keyboard. This is good. It’s nice. Makes me happy. Writing is a way of releasing the tension in my head and calming the storm and accumulations in it. Words are meant to use and share, aren’t they?

We, who are living in the Northern Hemisphere are having some cold days. Some of us are living through really cold days and some of us milder coldness. Nonetheless, how many of us are thinking of the poor animals who have to live outdoors? Yes, I am aware of the many homeless people out there; however- even though I know some people may judge me for my opinion- I can’t feel sorry for the people as much as I do for the animals. Babies and children are an exception. My sympathy for grown ups are much less. This is because, animals don’t have the evil and nastiness that people have. I see them as very innocent, pure living beings and don’t deserve any harm whatsoever.

For example, hundreds, maybe thousands of pedigree dogs are left on the street after they grow out their puppy cuteness. I’m extremely ashamed of living on the same earth with those people who can’t feel or understand the deep sorrow that they cause to these animals. The separation anxiety is so high as they can’t understand why they’re being left behind their“owners”.

Please love your pets and take care of them. If you can’t have pets in the house, please don’t cause any pain to the ones living outdoors; giving them food and water when you can and helping them out in their struggle to live.

 

Bu aralar sanırım çok verimli günlerimdeyim; zira yazı yazarken zorlanmıyorum.  Sözcükler otomatik dökülüyor zihnimden, oradan da parmaklarımdan klavyeye akıyorlar.  Bu iyi bir şey.  Güzel bir şey.  Beni mutlu ediyor.  Yazabilmek bir yerde zihnimi boşaltabilmek, oradaki kargaşayı ve birikmişliği biraz olsun rahatlatabilmek demek benim için.  Kelimeler kullanılmak için, paylaşılmak için değil midir bir yerde de?

Biz Kuzey Yarımküre’dekiler soğuk kış günleri geçiriyoruz bugünlerde.  Kimimiz çok soğuk, kimimiz de orta soğuklukta havaları yaşıyoruz.  Bu zorlu mevsim koşullarında peki dışarıdaki minik dostlarımızı kaçımız düşünüyoruz?  Evet, evsiz insanlar da var, farkındayım; belki beni bazılarınız yargılayacak, ancak insanlara acıyamıyorum.  Bebek veya çocuklar bu grubun dışında.  Yetişkin insanlara acıma duygum yok denecek kadar az. Hayvanlara ise içim parçalanıyor.  Çünkü onlar insanın sahip olduğu kötülüğe ve hainliğe sahip değiller.  Benim gözümde onlar çok masum, içlerinde saflık barındıran canlılar ve hiç bir şekilde kötülüğü haketmiyorlar. 

Mesela yüzlerce, belki de binlerce cins köpek yavruyken alınıp yavruluğu bitip de büyümeye başladığında sokağa terkediliyor; bu canda yol açılan acı ve gönül yarasını anlayamayan, bilemeyen insancıklarla aynı yeryüzünü paylaşıyor olmak çok canımı sıkıyor.  O masum hayvanların nedenini asla anlayamadıkları bir şekilde “sahiplerinden” ayrı kalmaları, onlarda onarılmaz yaralara yol açıyor. 

Lütfen hayvanlarımızı sevelim, onlarla ilgilenelim; evde besleyemiyorsak da dışarıdakilere eziyet etmeyelim, yemek ve su verip yaşam savaşlarında onlara destek olalım.

Out and about....the boys are back in town

When Reo, Joe and Jonas walked past they emitted such a force of cool sartorial style I just had to stop them. Turns out they are all fashion designers. They don't work as a team it just looks that way when the street. If you want to see more they are all on instagram @reo_ma, @joe_h and @jonaspoon. With the London Men's Collections starting next week I am looking forward to much more of this.

V345: Finished 1880 "Lobster Tail" Bustle

I finished off my electric blue "lobster tail" tournure this morning, and I'm really happy with the result!  I took lots of photos of the construction, so I will write a tutorial soon, but for now, here is the finished thing:

The whole thing is made out of this weird glazed batiste stuff I had in the stash.  I was having trouble imagining it as a dress, but I hate waste, so it has become this obnoxiously blue bustle.

With the help of lovely Elizabeth L., and looking at some of the extant tails from The Met, I worked out a simple 3-piece pattern I will show you later.  Also, special thanks to everyone who commented on yesterday's post, and on Facebook, with so many helpful tips!

The tail uses 7 bones, tied across inside with twill tapes.  There are buttons on the 2nd tier up that will serve for attaching another ruffle, for even more floof.

Here is the effect this bustle gives beneath the Green Acres underskirt, with one petticoat to support:

This could do with another petticoat and that additional ruffle on the bustle, to help it kick out even more in back, while keeping the nice straight, bulk-free front.

V344: And Now To Make a Lobster Tail

...a bustle, I mean, or a tournure.

Originally I had planned *not* to make a big ole honkin' bustle, but I can see now why it is a necessity.  The big huge skirt of a well-trained gown needs support beyond just the petticoat.  On my dress form now, I have a bum pillow, a wire collapsible bustle, a slim petticoat with flounces at the hem, my 18th c. flounced petticoat, and the trained bustle petticoat.  All that to support the skirt on top, but it's no good - it's TOO much!  The layers are so thick that the waist is no longer elegant and slim.

Enter the lobster tail.

Yummy....

The idea with the long bustle is to provide the necessary oomph at the bum, but to also support the back of the skirt all the way down, where it needs it most.  How many of you have suffered "bustle slump?"  I know I have...

This is an old project, but a good example of "bustle slump" - the back is dipping inward and not flowing out nicely, because there is no support back there.  Dang... this thing is ugly...

Here is a bustle from The Met that I've been eyeballing this morning...

The Met, 1880s - a great example.  This one has a ruffle that buttons on mid-way up.  The waistband ties at front, and the skirting at the sides also tie across the front.

 My plan is to...well, I don't really have a plan.  Truly Victorian has a pattern (TV163), as does Patterns of Time, but if I'm honest, this doesn't look so hard to figure out, and I don't have patience enough to wait for a pattern to arrive.  So it's time to go experiment with giant zip ties and a fair amount of muslin!

New Beginnings

Every year we make lists and make decisions for the new year.  Most of us have at least once made one of those lists.  Generally what’s in those lists?

1.       I’m going to diet and lose weight

2.       I’m going to start going to the gym and continue going forever

3.       I’m going to work harder and get that promotion

4.       I’m going to save more money

5.       I’m going to save more time to my hobbies

6.       I’m going to spend more time with my family/kids

7.       I’m going to live a more relaxed life

8.       I’m going to read more books

9.       I’m going to go get that guitar that I’ve been wanting for a long time

10.   I’m going to do more charity

... and the list goes on.

 Last year I didn’t make a list; however, this year I have my own! :)

1.       Yes, I already run and do pilates on a regular basis, but I’m going to be more serious and systematic about them. Perhaps join a gym.

2.       I’m definitely going to save time for my hobbies; not letting corporate life sucking the energy out of me.

3.       I’m going to work on my blog a lot more

4.       The most important one: I’m never ever going to let evil souls and stupid brains of the corporate world upset me! Life is too short and precious to be upset or anxious continuesly.  Every second of it needs to be lived all the way through with joy and meaning!

 Don’t forget; nothing and nobody is more valuable than yourself!

HAPPY, VERY HAPPY NEW YEARS!

Geçen yıl liste yapmamıştım; ama bu sene bir listem var! :)

1.       Evet, spor zaten yapıyordum ama bu yıl daha ciddi daha sistematik gideceğim

2.       Hobilerime kesinlikle zaman ayıracağım; iş hayatının sömürdüğü enerjimi sömürtmeyip hobilerime aktaracağım

3.       Bloğumla çok daha yakından ilgileneceğim

4.       Aptal iş hayatının ve barındırdığı kötü ruhların ve aptal beyinlerin beni  üzmesine asla ama asla izin vermeyeceğim!  İşte en önemli madde bu! Hayat çok kısa ve her saniyesinin mutlu, verimli geçmesi çok çok önemli. 

Unutmayın, hiçbir şey ve hiç kimse sizden daha değerli değil!
