Men's Regency Inspiration

I've been a bag blogger, I know! It's just that, well you know how it goes - brain fried with all kinds of in-progress projects, future projects, crazy stuff happening.

My "big" project this year is Mr. C's Regency duds, for Maggie and Albert's Regency wedding, in October. I'll be making him a shirt, breeches, waistcoat, and tail coat.  Some of those items frighten me considerably more than others, but I'm armed with my new book The Victorian Tailor: An Introduction to Period Tailoring, patterns from Kanniks Corner for the waistcoat and shirt, the surprisingly period Simplicity breeches pattern, and the tailcoat pattern from Country Wives.

I arrived at these pattern choices after much researching, hunting for reviews, looking at anything I could find on men's Regency clothing.  Compared to women's attire, there isn't much to go on!  However, here are some inspiration images I did find...

Mr. C has requested (or demanded?) a navy blue tail coat with gold buttons, an ivory taffeta waistcoat, and tan breeches, though I don't know yet what to make them out of.  He also wants a top hat and tan-cuff boots (ha!).  It will be my job to fit the dickens out of the patterns, tailor the snot out of the tail coat, and make it all look perfect on him.  No pressure!

Best Dresses of the Oscars 2013

Another Oscars night with all its fake jokes and joy padded with marketing gimmicks, yet glorious dresses and behind the scenes designers on the show. I've never been into the Oscars, never got excited about it, never stayed up (because of the time difference, it's on around 3 am) to watch it.  However, I have always been interested in the dresses of that special night.  Pure curiosity of seeing those couture gowns followed by the desire to get some good laugh from the "Who has screwed that one up again?", moment.  Am I mean or what? :) 

I'll start with my top 5 favorite dresses and gradually get to the criticism. 

Tüm ticariliği ve yapmacıklığıyla bir başka Oscar gecesi daha geçti gitti.  Hiçbir zaman Oscar gecesi hayranlarından olmadım; hiçbir zaman heyecanlanıp sabahlara kadar oturup izlemedim.  Ancak, her zaman o gece giyilen elbiselere ilgi duydum.  Sırf merakımdan o couture elbiseleri incelerim ve bir parça da "Ah, nasıl da batırmış işi", diyerek gülebilme ihtimalini severim. :) Acımasız mıyım, neyim? :) 

En beğendiğim ilk beş elbiseyi sizlerle paylaşmak istiyorum.  Ardından da eleştirilere geçeceğim :) 

Jennifer Lawrence- She looks like a modern fairy tale princess in that pastel Dior dress. Simply love it. Although I am well aware of the fact that she's this year's marketing doll, I can't deny that she looks stunningly beautiful in that dress, accompanied by the romantic-classic makeup. #1

Naomi Watts- Wearing an uber gorgeous Giorgio Armani dress, she's simply flawless.  The design of the dress perfectly hugs her great body, while her hair and makeup smoothly matches the dress.  This one is my #2.

Jessica Chastain- Another Giorgio Armani dress, another beautiful woman.  Jessica's look is classical Hollywood glam, which I'm very loving at the moment! #3

Samantha Barks- To be honest, I'm not familiar with her.  However, I simply loved this simple yet very sexy dress she's wearing. This minimalist black Valentino dress with a very deeeep plunge might be kind of too minimalist for the Oscars; however, I'm loving how she did her hair casually to keep the dress the center of attention.  Just one point; she could have chosen some other piece of jewelry, a more delicate piece of design. #4
Açık konuşmak gerekirse, bu kadını tanımıyorum ya da ben çıkaramadım.  Ne var ki, bu son derece minimal ve şık kesimli elbiseye bayıldığımı belirtmeden geçemeyeceğim.  Belki benim minimalizme olan aşkımdan dolayıdır, bilemiyorum.  Ancak bu derin dekolteli sade kesimli elbise gerçekten muhteşem duruyor. Tek çekincem, Oscar gecesi için belki biraz fazla sade olabilir.  Bir de mücevher seçimini çok beğenmedim.  Biraz daha zarif bir tasarım seçilebilirmiş. #4

Zoe Saldana- She looks beautiful in that Alexis Mabille gown.  I'm just not so sure of the bottom part, there's something slightly off with it; just can't figure it out! :) #5

Kristen Steward- Come on Kristen, this is the Oscars, your hair isn't well-done, looks kind of oily and dirty plus the Reem Acra dress you're wearing is slightly off on you. 
Kristen, güzel kızım, artık bence bu tip gecelere nasıl gelinmesi gerektiğini öğrenmenin vakti geliyor da geçiyor.  Oscar gecesine bu saçla mı gelinir yahu? Saçlar özensiz, kirli ve yağlı görünüyor. Elbise de fena olmamakla beraber üzerine tam oturmamış gibi. 

Anne Hathaway- Anne is wearing a Prada dress, very minimalist, yet gorgeous.  However, there's something seriously off with the front part as you can see her nipples very clearly, which we're not into at all! 
Anne'in giydiği Prada elbise aslında çok güzel ve zarif.  Fakat şu göğüs kısmında neler olmuş çözemedim, görmek istemediğimiz kadar çok fazla detay görünüyor :)

Helen Hunt- Is Helen trying to make a point with wearing an H&M dress or what? :) I'm not against it at all, but she could've used some steaming to get rid of all those wrinkles! Looks cheap unfortunately. 
Helen Hunt acaba mesaj kaygılı bir davranışta mı bulunmuş bu H&M elbiseyi seçerken? Karşı değilim kesinlikle, elbise güzel.  Fakat sağlam bir ütüye ihtiyacı var, zira ütüsüzlüğü elbiseyi oldukça adi göstermiş. 

Jennifer Aniston- This one may be harsh, but she's not aging well. Up until a couple of years ago she looked good, if not beautiful.  There's either a problem with the tone of her hair color or maybe that tone of red of her Valentino dress isn't for her. Either way, she looks older than she is actually! 
Jennifer Aniston için belki ağır olacak ama, bu kadın iyi yaşlanmıyor. Daha bir-iki yıl öncesine kadar gayet iyi görünürken burada oldukça "yaşlı" duruyor. Saçının tonundan mıdır yoksa elbisesinin kırmızısından mıdır bilemedim ama bir şeyler doğru gitmiyor, orası kesin. 

Jennifer Gardner-  This purple Gucci dress doesn't flatter her figure at all. Looks too flat.  Don't like it. 
Bu mor renkli Gucci elbise hiç yakışmamış.  Fazla düz üst kısmı ve vücuduna hiç olmamış. 

Nicole Kidman- This metallic L'wren Scott dress is too drowning, old looking. Didn't like this one either.

 Bu metalik elbise hiç olmamış. Çok boğucu ve yaşlı görünümlü. Beğenmedim.

And now these are the ones that I don't dislike, but not get overly excited either. Just wanted to share them with you. 

Bunlar da arada kaldıklarım. Yani, ne beğenmedim ne de bayıldım. Fena değil grubunu takdim ediyorum :) 

Adele- She has made a good choice for her figure and went for the delicate black sequin Jenny Packham dress.  I like it. 

Vücuduna en uygun seçimlerden biri olmuş bu. Zarifçe parlayan siyah bir elbise. Çok yakışmış. 

Reese Witherspoon- Another classic Hollywood style.  Wearing a bright hued Louis Vuitton dress, and her classic wavy hair, she looks quite good. I just didn't like the black strip of the dress. 
Klasik bir Hollywood görünümü daha.  Canlı renkli elbisesi ve klasik dalgalı saçları ile oldukça hoş görünüyor.  Sadece elbisenin siyah şeritli kısımlarından emin olamadım. 

Renee Zelweger- She says "I've worked out, I have the right to show off my toned body" :) She does look quite stunning in that golden Carolina Herrera dress, in my humble opinion.  
Bu elbiseyi giyerek "Bakın ne kadar çok spor yaptım, çalıştım, vücudummu göstermek benim de hakkım", diyor :) Altın tanrıça gibi olmuş bir bakıma, fena değil yani :)

Amy Adams- While Amy looks like a princess in that Oscar de la Renta dress, I think she needs to make a change in her picks for these types of events, as she usually chooses dresses like this one; very pastel, very princess-y. 
Amy bu elbise ile bir prenses gibi görünmekle beraber, bence artık bu tür geceler için seçimlerini değiştirmeli.  Çok sık bu tür pastel ve prensesimsi elbiseler içinde görüyoruz bu kadını ve artık biraz sıkıcı olmaya başladı.
