Today all bloggers are talking about the Costume Institute Gala- aka Met Ball.  So I thought to myself I might as well blog about it to be up-to-date.  But first I’d like to give brief information about this ball.

Being nicknamed - the “Oscars of the East Coast,” the ball celebrates the annual opening of the Metropolitan Museum’s (The Met) fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute, which was founded in 1948.   Hosted by Vogue, it has been a top annual social event in NYC since 1948.   It’s basically a fund-raising event to support exhibitions, acquisitions and capital improvements, and if every guest paid for a ticket, $17.5 mil would be raised just in that very night.   While some guests pay from their own pockets for a ticket, such as Kate Upton in order to attend the event, paying full price is a rare thing and usually celebrities get a discount. After all, they need to assure attendance of many famous people.

Each year, the event has a theme and this year’s theme is "Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations," exploring similarities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada.

Going through photos of this year’s guests, I must admit that I’m somewhat disappointed.  OK. I can understand trying to be artistic or fashionable in a sense of being unique and making a statement.  But please do that in a way that you don’t make a mess of your body.  For  example, I don’t want to see Beyoncé in that horrifying dress.  Don’t you agree with me? Or Claire Danes in that weird dress making her look even thinner than she normally is.
Dressing should be about making your flaws  be less noticed and positive aspects  stand out and not look like a clown. Sorry.

Marillon Cotillard- Dior
She absolutely looks so a la français and chic! Love it!

Camilla Belle- Ralph Lauren
Another celebrity that I love. She's so delicately beautiful, and this dress is gorgeous on her.

Rooney Mara- Givenchy
I don't know how this style is called but the lace bottom and the leather bodice is just so rock-chic. Her rock-chic style suits her so well. Hands up for this one.

Nina Dobrev-Donna Karan
This gorgeous dress looks like a painting with gold brush strokes on a black canvas. Stunning.

 Emily Blunt- Calvin Klein
This typically minimalist Calvin Klein dress on Emily looks very sporty and chic at the same time.  And the color is just so spring-like.

 Solange Knowles- Rachel Roy
What a great color on her! This is also a very good example of the peplum trend.

 Kristen Dunst- Rodarte
Looks like a footage from the 40s. I'm not so sure if this outfit suits her frame but still is one of the   better looks from the ball.

January Jones- Atelier Versace
She looks absolutely stunning with this space age looking dress, but the necklace isn't a good choice.

Lana Del Ray- Joseph Altuzarra
One of the coolest looks. Lana looks very cool in this dress, and the cape adds a bit of an elf look to the whole outfit.

Carey Mulligan- Prada
Very modern looking dress with a shiny fish skin effect. Like it!

Christina Ricci- Thakoon
This is a good example of an artistic, i could even say a sculpted look. Suites Christina very well.

Lily Collins- Valentino
Such a delicate look. Very airy and pastel.

Scarlett Johannson- Dolce & Gabbana
The dress is a bit out-of-date but still looks fab on her.  However, she should've chosen a better hair do. Maybe a loose up-do. Her hair is too casual for the dress.

Anna Wintour- Queen of fashion & daughter Bee Shaffer
Anna'a Prada is typically Anna looking crisp and chic with her fur etoile. And Bee is wearing an Erdem - a half Turkish designer- a classical cut but the prints and the color of the dress is just gorgeous.

Gwyneth Paltrow-Prada
This woman has a real taste of style, knows her shape and dresses accordingly. Always looks fresh, crisp, classy and chic. This silver dress, the pink of the clutch and the shoes are just perfection.

And now to the looks that i totally don't like:

Beyoncé- Givenchy
Come on Beyoncé, this dress doesn't suit you at all, I don't think it'll suit anyone. Ridiculous details on the bottom and the combo of the transparent and the bottom details are just off

Cameron Diaz- Stella McCartney
What happened to Cameron Diaz. She got old a lot so quickly. She should change her hair color a.s.a.p, that makes her look 10 years older.  The dress makes her look thicker than she is and the color of it just makes her even more washed out.

Claire Danes- J. Mendel
This dress looks bad on her. Makes her look like a stick, when she's not.

Elizabeth Banks- Mary Katrantzou
I prefer not to comment on this one.

Eva Mendez- Prada
Wrong choice of color and the peplum detail doesn't suit her at all. I'll pass this one.

Mary Kate Olsen- her own design
Can somebody tell me what's wrong with this young lady?? Why does she look so washed out and sad all the time? And what's that black fabric wrapped around her? She needs some help.

S.J.Parker- Valentino
What is she trying to do? All floral look? The shoes and the dress have the same pattern and fabric. That's ridiculous. Totally a wrong choice.
